Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Passes Away After Long Illness
The Saudi Royal Court has officially announced the passing of Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, following a long-standing medical condition. The prince died on Friday, July 19, 2025, in Riyadh, after spending more than 18 years in a near-comatose state due to a severe car accident.
Who Was Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal?
Prince Al-Waleed was the son of Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, grandson of the Kingdom’s founder King Abdulaziz Al Saud, and nephew of renowned businessman Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal. He became widely known as the “Sleeping Prince” due to his prolonged medical condition that captured public attention both inside and outside Saudi Arabia.
In 2005, he was involved in a high-speed traffic accident that left him with a severe brain injury and placed him in a coma for over 18 years.
His parents never lost hope in his recovery, and refused to disconnect life support, citing faith and belief in signs of neurological response over the years.

Prince Al-Waleed’s condition became a deeply emotional case for the Saudi public. His family occasionally shared video footage showing minor movements or responses, sparking hope across the nation.
However, his health had gradually deteriorated in recent months, culminating in his peaceful passing.
Funeral and Burial
The funeral prayer is expected to be held on Friday evening at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. Members of the royal family, government officials, and citizens are expected to attend the funeral in large numbers.
