Morocco Strengthens Its Industrial Position with One Million Vehicles Produced Annually and STELLANTIS Plant Expansion Under Royal Supervision

By Adel MD

Morocco has reached a major milestone in its automotive industry, producing one million locally manufactured vehicles per year, announced Mr. Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade. He attributed this achievement to the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who closely monitors the progress of key industrial projects—foremost among them, the STELLANTIS operations in Morocco.

The statement came during an official visit marking the expansion of the STELLANTIS manufacturing plant in Morocco—an initiative that reflects the country’s firm commitment to building a competitive, robust, and resilient industrial ecosystem.

Plant Expansion: A Strong Signal of International Confidence

The expansion of the STELLANTIS plant is a testament to the confidence international investors place in Morocco’s industrial landscape. It comes at a time when global trends are increasingly focused on sustainable and agile production models. Morocco continues to attract global industrial players thanks to its:

Advanced infrastructure (including Tanger Med Port and integrated industrial platforms),

Qualified human capital through specialized training centers,

and competitive investment incentives.

Automotive Industry: A Pillar of the National Economy

Today, the automotive sector stands as Morocco’s leading export industry, outperforming all other industrial sectors. With a current local integration rate exceeding 65%, the government aims to increase this share significantly in the coming years. The sector has also contributed to the creation of thousands of jobs, while fostering a strong local and regional supplier network.

Minister Mezzour emphasized that the expansion marks a new chapter for Morocco as it moves toward producing electric vehicles, in alignment with global environmental standards and positioning the country as a leader in sustainable green manufacturing.

Royal Vision Anchoring Industrial Sovereignty

These industrial achievements are part of a broader royal strategic vision to enhance Morocco’s industrial sovereignty by diversifying its economic base, boosting global competitiveness, and further integrating into international value chains.

Projects like STELLANTIS embody the success of Morocco’s industrial development model, combining political support, strategic planning, and innovation to build a modern, inclusive, and future-ready industrial economy.
