CAF Doubles Financial Contributions to Over 130 African Clubs

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in its financial support for clubs participating in its two major continental tournaments: the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.

In a statement released by CAF, the governing body confirmed it is doubling its financial contributions by 100% for more than 130 clubs competing in these prestigious competitions.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe: A New Era of Support

CAF President Patrice Motsepe emphasized the importance of financially empowering African clubs.

“Last year, CAF contributed for the first time an amount of $50,000 to each club,” Motsepe stated. “Now, every club should receive $100,000.”

This move is part of CAF’s broader strategy to enhance the professionalism, competitiveness, and sustainability of club football across the African continent.

Strategic Investment in African Football

The increased funding is expected to:

  • Support travel, logistics, and player welfare.

  • Help clubs improve infrastructure and technical preparation.

  • Incentivize stronger participation in continental competitions.

By offering $100,000 per club, CAF aims to reduce the financial burden on clubs, especially those from lower-income regions, and encourage greater investment in talent development.

A Step Forward for African Competitions

CAF’s decision reflects growing recognition of the crucial role clubs play in the development of African football. This move comes at a time when African competitions are gaining more visibility, thanks in part to CAF’s partnerships with global broadcasters and sponsors.

The doubling of financial contributions to participating clubs represents a major milestone for African football. With increased support, clubs across the continent are better positioned to compete, develop, and thrive on the continental stage.
